On the First day of Christmas my true love gave to me… or The Boot Room Christmas Gift Guide pt 3

December 1, 2017

So November has turned into December and as you turn the page on your official team calendar you realise that the player the designers selected for this month was sold to your nearest rivals in the last throes of the January transfer window just over 10 months ago…

However, December 1st does bring some joy as you open the first door on your new advent calendar and expose a chocolate/a picture of a manger / Lego Star Wars Ghost ship (delete as applicable). Then you realise that you still haven’t started your Christmas shopping and now there are just 24 days to go! Don’t fear and don’t panic we’re here with the 3rd part of our Christmas Gift Guide to help point you in the right direction – you won’t even have to leave the house to get them! Unless of course you’re out when the postman delivers them and you have to go and join the huge queue at your not so local Post Office Depot…

If you did happen to miss  Part 1 of our gift guide it can be found here and Part 2 can be found here.

1.  Drawing the 92 by Jamie Edwards – ISBN: 9781780895581 – RRP £25.00

This is a great colourful coffee table book showcasing the work of artist Jamie Edwards. He’s spent around 10 years travelling across the country to draw all 92 league grounds. Each of the illustrations is bold, colourful and drawn from views that fans of that club will instantly recognise and connect with. Each piece is accompanied by a brief description of the stadium and quotes. 51xlwk5vunlbook92kkingpower

2. Glove Story –  by Rob Stokes, Derek Hammond & Gary Silke -£10.00 from Conker Editions and other book sellers.

Our friends over at Got, Not Got have recently added to their collection of team themed nostalgia books with the publication of Glove Story a collection of goalkeeping memorabilia, vintage product images, goalkeeping memories and interviews. Written by Derek Hammond and Gary Silke along with Rob Stokes this book is the ideal gift for any goalkeeper past or present but you don’t have to be a member of the Goalkeepers Union to appreciate this book. By purchasing this book you’ll also be doing some good as all the author royalties are being donated to the Willow Foundation.

3. 1 year subscription to Mundial magazine – UK £30

What’s better than giving a gift that keeps on giving (well, 4 times a year!) ? Mundial is a quarterly football lifestyle magazine that covers everything from fans, and players to kits and boots via a few other diversions also! It’s a big favourite of ours and we’ve been subscribers since the first issue!

4.  Calcipolos – The Review – Gazzetta polo from Trickett – now just £15 (was £30)

Back in 1992 Channel 4 acquired the rights to screen Serie A. At this time the Italian top league was considered the best in the world with many of the worlds leading players plying their trade there. Over the course of a weekend Channel 4 would broadcast a live match on a Sunday afternoon under the banner of Football Italia and a recap/preview show on a Saturday morning called Gazzetta Football Italia. Both of these shows were hosted by James Richardson and it’s the iconic image of Richardson explaining the football stories making the headlines in Italy that is the inspiration for this polo shirt.  Be quick though as there are only XL’s left!

5.  A-Z of Football – Initial typographic print – £14 from Dinkit on Etsy

A is for Arsenal, B is for Barca, … Q is for QPR… etc

These tasteful and understated prints are a fine way to show off your allegiance and great value at £14 + postage.

Dinkit also have a range of other football themed prints in their Etsy store

Stocking filler idea:

More socks – this time from Win or Lose – £8 a pair and available in loads of team colours
