Vintage Nike football boot ads

February 18, 2013

Whilst clearing out the loft recently we found a box full of old (mostly mid 1980’s) Shoot and Match magazines. The task of sorting out the loft was soon replaced with the task of browsing through each and every one! We soon found ourselves reminiscing over adverts for old boots, trainers, kits  and even goalkeepers gloves!

Obviously we’re not going to keep all these goodies to ourselves – we want to share them with you guys and over the coming days or weeks we’ll be featuring some of them on here. Unfortunately our scanner was playing up so you’ll have to make do with these photo’s instead. Anyway, first up is this collection of Nike adverts – enjoy!

Hell I wouldn’t mind wearing those today, they look like they could sell. Such a unique look.

How easy it was back then – just airbrush out the adidas logo and you’re ready to go! No wonder clubs started to worry about copyrighting and the like.

I had a pair of air strike, wore them for rugby, great and comfortable apart from taking place kicks, back in those days there were no cones, you either used sand or used your heel to dig a kicking mound and those cushioned heels were a pain as you couldn’t dig a proper mound!

The Air Strike boots (all pics except boot room and 6 yard box) were total garbage. a few friends wore them and they fell apart. The “boot room” boots – what were they called? Same thing? They were the earlier version and totally awesome.

    Brilliant blog.
The Earlier Airstrike were with yellow ‘ticks’ and yellow NIKE around the heel. From memory the season before also had the same but with the nike ‘tick’? Also I remember that there were also Firestrike, same design but Orange instead of yellow.
If anyone from Nike ever reads these blogs…………….get on the case guys and bring ’em back!!

      Thanks for the comments

Yeah, the first ones just had NIKE around the heel. The top of the range ones were differentiated from the take-down version by having the letters in solid yellow whereas the cheaper ones just had the letter outlines.
