Ebay gem #4 – Nike Air GX II FG

Following hot on the heels of the last blog post about a stunning Nike boot from years gone by appearing is another one!

This time it’s the turn of these Nike Air GX II FG (firm ground) to take centre stage. Once again it’s rare to even find a wearable pair of these let alone a pair in deadstock condition such as these.

This boot was a top of the range boot from Nike and featured the then fairly revolutionary off centre lacing. The uppers were made from a super soft kangaroo leather upper with either a red (as shown here) or royal blue trim. Both colourways featured a metallic swoosh that was very reminiscent of the Nike Zoom Spiridon running shoes. Both the firm ground and soft ground sole units featured Nike’s patented Zoom Air cushioning system. Another interesting point to note about the SG sole plate was that the studs were fixed and not removable or screw-in like many of the more traditional soft ground boots. The ‘studs’ were more the ‘blade’ like type that we have seen on many boots in recent years. As with many of Nike’s top end boots from this era the boots were made in Italy and not in Korea or elsewhere in Asia.

This boot was a popular choice among many of Nike’s stable of pro’s and they adorned the feet of many players including Teddy Sheringham and Robbie Fowler amongst others. Although as can be seen from the pic below Sheringham’s featured the more traditional removal sole unit.

This boot also featured on the hard to find Nike x Mo Wax promotional CD that featured music tracks inspired by the various Nike shoes. At the bottom of this post is aYouTube video of the track for this boot.
